The Process
Steps to Obtain a CDL

Get your DOT Physical.

Municipal government workers and other workers may be exempt from the requirement to have a Medical Examiner's Certificate under certain conditions. Check with your employer if that is the case.

1.

4.

Start your Behind-The-Wheel (BTW) Training. It is a DLTS policy to train a minimum of 10 hours of driving on a Public Road.

Pass your ELDT Theory training. We provide online and classroom (in person) theory training. It can take up to 16 hours, depending on the Class and Endorsement and personal ability.

2.

5.

BTW is completed and the test is scheduled.

The one-on-one instruction allows the training to be completed in approximately 40 hours for Class A, and approximately 30 hours for Class B.

You must have a CDL Permit before you begin training. We can help you prepare for that test with training on general knowledge, air brakes and combination of vehicles

3.

6.

Trainee passes the test and the CDL is issued! Additional training is required for the CDL holder to become a safe professional driver.
